Where are Sarah and George in 1871?

In 1871 Sarah is there but no George (just to make things confusing haha). She is living in Low Fell with her 2 sons Andrew & Joseph.

Is this George in prison in 1871?

Millbank Prison, Westminster

RG10/125/75/32

George Robson, convict, unm, 36, striker, Durham Winlaton

It says unmarried. But the occupation striker fits with Sarah's description in 1871 of Blacksmith's wife.

Oh I'm not sure - I have never seen this before? The age matches up so it is possible?

This might be Sarah's burial, at Gateshead East Cemetery. It says she is the wife of George Robson.

freeBMD shows 1st q. 1876, aged 37, Gateshead 10a, 451

Wow this is great - Thank You. Looking back Sarah and George had many children and they gave quite a few up for adoption (including my 2x Great Grandmother) so if he turned to robbery for money etc it could explain a lot.

This might not be your man, but it's worth following up if you can

Yes it is defiantly worth following up so I will look into it more - Thanks :)

Just out of curiously, where do you find these things? I use FamilySearch a lot but I don't think I am using it to it's full advantage.

The Criminal Registers shows that George Robson was sentenced to 10 years for 'Robbery with others and with violence before convicted of felony'

On the same page was a Samuel Riggans also convicted for the same period and for the same charge. Both of these men appear on the 1871 Census whilst in prison in London.

If you have Find My past you can follow this link for the Criminal register entry -
