A marriage for John SEAGER, 1780 - 1794
« on: Monday 18 January 21 23:49 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a marriage for John SEAGER, born Greenwich (occasionally listed as born Deptford) 1765, baptised at Butt Lane Independent Deptford 1765, parents Richard and Elizabeth SEAGER.
John was apprenticed, 26 Feb 1779 to George Atkins, taylor of Lewisham.
He was buried at Butt Lane Independent, 19 August 1794, residence Greenwich Rd.
His will was dated May 1794 and names his wife as "Sarah", so obviously he married before May 1794. No children are mentioned in the Will.

Thanks, Judith

There is a marriage for a John Seager and a Sarah Burnand, 6 Jun 1786, Whitechapel

A John Seager marrying a Sarah Lovejoy, 1791, St Thomas Southwark

A John Seager marrying a Sarah Fill, 7 Mar 1784, Eastchurch Kent

And a John Seager marrying a Sarah Attwater, 14 Sep 1783, Hollingbourne Kent

The first two would be worthwhile following up on.

Thank you for having a hunt, Jo.

I've had a look at the top two as there are images for those but none of the witnesses seem to be known to the family, and I can't rule the marriages in or out really.  John seems to be close to Deptford for much of his life - born and died there, says he is 'of Greenwich' in his will and his apprenticeship is to a tailor in Lewisham.

Strange co-incidence I've just found - there's a marriage of a John Seager to a Mary PEACOCK, St Bart, London, 1785.  John's will is witnessed by a Mary PEACOCK in 1794.  Just one of those peculiar coincidences, I guess.

Cheers, Judith

I wondered if there was a Nathaniel...

There is a will for a Sarah Seager of St George the Martyr, widow, proved in 1818 (written in 1814).

She mentions many family members, but notably “Martha Blakely, wife of my brother Samuel Blakely” and “my late husband’s nephew Thomas Seager, son of his late brother Nathaniel Seager”

I don't think this is will of Sarah (b1775). This will was proved by Jonathan Seager brother of the .....  (?? written rather small) and ............. executor.

There is a Sarah Seager buried on 25 Jun 1818 at St Saviour Southwark age 47 (b abt 1771) address St George. Right sort of age to be John's widow.
