Moses, Hannah and Martha Green
« on: Thursday 21 January 21 13:53 GMT (UK) »
I've a Green family line I'd traced back to Thomas, bapt. 14th Sept 1740, Biddulph, Staffs. Parents Moses and Hannah. In the margin of the parish record is "gypsy"
He remained in Biddulph, married , had children, and buried there.
Apart from that one record mentioning his parents, there's nothing else about them.

Except, there's now a record of a marriage for Moses Green to Martha Adderton, Leek, 19th Nov 1739.
Both residing in Biddulph.
So this marriage was 10 months before Thomas was baptised.
There's nothing else for this couple after that date (1739), nothing to link them to Thomas.

When I checked my tree on Ancestry, I've noticed there are 10 trees with Moses (married to Martha) as Thomas's Father, but no proof as far as I can tell, just speculation.

I'd be very grateful for any views you might have.
Griff.

Thank you Rosie. If it's Martha Addarton/Adderton, that would make her about 66.
I've sort of got it stuck in my head that Moses (Hannah) could be the father of Moses (Martha). It's not unusual for a parent to have a child about the same time his firstborn is getting married. My older sister's wedding photos are an example, she's holding her very newborn brother in a couple. (I think she was about 21) 🙄
