This might be interesting read:-

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sharman-395

George's father went by both Henry Sharman and Henry Watling - the births of George and his siblings were registered with Watling, as was their mother's death, but they used Sharman on most other records. At least until about 1881, when George switched to using Watling.

Sandra thank you for all the amazing information - found out so much, but am still puzzled by one thing -
cannot find any relationship between George Lewis's parents and John Sharman b Langham 1862, father of Frederick and Harry who were both KIA WW1.

This is what I have so far. - George Sharman b 1848 Langham - Father Henry Mother Elizabeth
John Sharman b Langhgam 1862 -cannot find his parents only his wife Ellen and children Charles, Frederick, Harry.

Perhaps you can help on this one.
Thanks

Children of labourer Henry & Eliza SHARMAN:
1844 Harriet
1848 George (of Badwell [Ash?])
1850 Emma (private baptism; "[entered as WATLING]"

Children of labourer Henry & Sarah SHARMAN alias WATLING:
1860 Emma
1863 Oct. 4 John aged 2 years & Charles aged 2 months
1868 Jan. 26 "[?]" [forename presumably illegible or not recorded]

Daughter of labourer Henry & Sarah WATLING alias SHARMAN:
1870 Louisa Sharman WATLING (born 3 June 1868)

Burials at Langham:

1850 December 29 Emma WATLING infant
1851 June 1 Eliza WATLING aged 31
1872 March 11 Henry WATLING alias SHARMAN [or SHARMAN alias WATLING!] aged 51

Since there is a corresponding baptism at Langham in 1820 for Eliza RALPH (daughter of George & Frances) I think it's safe to assume that she was George's mother (née RALPH) who married in 1844 (Reply #9).

Census records support the other evidence that Sarah BAIL(E)Y became George's step-mother in 1859 (Reply #7) and delivered his half-brother John in 1861.
