If you know as much as that I assume you've exhausted the IGI and all the other online sources.  Your best hope is to try Devon Record Office for any parish records they might have.  But you'll be very lucky to get back any further than you have already.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
