John Fitzgerald
« on: Monday 25 January 21 22:11 GMT (UK) »
January 1880 John Fitzgerald wrote a letter to his son Edward B. Fitzgerald in NYC from the Dungarvan Union Hospital. I found a record for a John Fitzgerald who died Oct. 4 1882 in the work house. Any hints as to where I might find records for him or his son? The son's death certificate states that his mother was Bridget. Thank you.

What does the ‘B’ stand for?

What information do you have on Edward?

From census reports in the US  and his death certificate  I have birth dates of 1854,1855, 1850 and 1852. He died in 1917 in Chicago. All records show he was born in Ireland to Irish parents. He emigrated in 1864 according to one record. He always used the initial B and I have not been able to find what it stands for in any record.

Hello,
No the letter doesn't mention Bridget. He only speaks about being given a bit of money for clothes and food. He hadn't heard from his son in many years and was hoping he might visit. But there's no record that he ever did.

Hi

Pity.   Was there any mention of brothers or sisters?  Any other names?

Regards

The only name mentioned is Anthony who gave him the money. The historian in Dungarvan said that likely referred to Dr. Anthony who was the Dungarvan doctor in the 1880's. I found a baptism record for an Edward Fitzgerald in 1851 with the mother's name as Bridget Browne which could explain the B. in Edward's name. I appreciate your interest but it does seem I've got an insurmountable brick wall.
