Townlands, Willand, Cullompton - Tanqueray
« on: Thursday 04 February 21 15:54 GMT (UK) »
My 2x Gr Aunt Margaret Kate Tanqueray lived at Townlands, Willand from at least 1911 with her husband William Henry Tanqueray.  William died in 1923 and Margaret in 1943.  Sometime after William's death and before 1939 Margaret moved to Burnham on Sea but she is buried in the churchyard at Willand.

According to her obituary published in The Western Times on 3 September 1943, Margaret was responsible for having trees planted in the village.

Does anyone happen to have any local knowledge about Margaret and William, Townlands or her tree planting project?

I can't help with local knowledge of the trees, however there is an interesting dispute over her son's (from previous marriage) will. It is reported in the Western Gazette, Friday,  Mar. 31, 1922. It is quite long so I won't transcribe it , but can send you a copy if you haven't seen it.  :)

Thank you both for your replies.

I will give the local history group a try.

I am aware of the Will dispute and have seen the article but thank you for having a dig about for me maddys52.

I have a family photograph which features quite a grand looking lady and for some reason I have it in my head that this may be Margaret.  I was hoping that there may be a photograph out there somewhere for comparison, perhaps in a local publication or Willand Parish magazine.  A bit of a long shot but you never know.

Thank you both again for your interest.
