Garstonite - John being the Father of John Godfrey is still up in the air - 2 records (his marriage in 1878 and baptism (47 after his birth) both state John but nothing is confirming it at the moment.
Thanks for your efforts

Found them in 1851 - Isabella with Alexander Patterson in Liverpool  ;D
At the minute I'm at a loss as to who on earth John Powell is - he's mentioned as John Godfrey Powell's Father on his marriage in 1878 and referred to on his baptism in 1906 as his father and the other children Godfrey 1862, Ellen Maud 1866 and Lizzie 1867 births are registered as Powell but he's like a ghost in every other aspect!  ???

It's probably safe to say that John Powell was the father of the Liverpool-born children - but perhaps he's out of the picture by 1871. As I said, if it was me I'd be ordering the 1859 birth certificate.

Yes I would agree ShaunJ

We've bottomed out Isabella's life and there's a Powell somewhere in the mix certainly between 1858 and 1867 and yes I would agree he has seemingly bit the dust by 1871 like Alexander Patterson must have done prior to 1858.

I'll order the birth certificate and thanks for all your help  :)

On the 8 August last, at Rio Bento, Africa, aged 29 years, Captain Alexander Patterson, of the Earl Derby. Deceased had survived two attacks of fever, and was partially convalescent but was eventually carried off by diarrhoea......
