Samuel Turner 1760 - Halifax - Wife and Parents?
« on: Saturday 06 February 21 21:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone

I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me find the name of my 5xgreat grandfather's wife and parents.  Samuel Turner was born March 1760 Halifax and his son was Japheth Turner born 1781 Northowram.
I've been searching for quite a while now and after having a long break would like to try again in finding more information for him.
I've had no luck in finding his wife's name or any birth record for him.  Other children (as well as Japheth) were William, Harriot, Hannah and Ruth.
Hoping (and keeping my fingers crossed) that someone may be able to help me with these searches.

Thank you :)

dates/locations for Japheth's siblings?
Any mother's name on those baptisms?

Where did Samuel Turners birth year come from if no baptism found?

The only "birth record" will be a baptism for that time period.

There are these 2 Samuel Turners in Halifax.

Apr 1759 father Samuel

Jan 1760 father Tobias
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Hi and thank you for replying.

I thought it might be a difficult one with the surname Turner.  I don't think there are any children/grandchildren with the name Tobias.  A lot of the family did come from Northowram/Ovenden if that helps.

Hi PaulineJ

So sorry please excuse me I've only just noticed your message which was before Milliepede, for some reason I only saw that message.  Thank you for replying.

Looking at our records, we don't have a definite birth for Samuel (I'm unsure where my mum had got the information for Samuel's birth from), so this could well be the wrong year of birth for him.

I'll check the children's and get back with the information asap.

Hi again,

Looking at the information we have, I can't see any dates/locations for Japheth's siblings (maybe I should put these on one side for now as they may be incorrect too),

Going by Japheth Turner, he was born in Northowram and lived in Northowram.  He was married to Hannah Washington in. June 1801.  Two of his sons were James and Japheth.

Do you think we should start again with Japheth in the hope that we can find information for Samuel as his father?

Thank you

Back in the 18th century or before, year of birth could also come from being written record in a family bible or a grave head or flat stone inscription/epitaph age at death

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi dobfarm,
Thanks for replying and the advice which is great to know.
I do think I’m at a dead end with Samuel and may have to go back to Japheth Turner (although Japheth’s baptism does say father Samuel).
It’s very confusing
