Mother's maiden name?
« on: Sunday 07 February 21 05:02 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody decipher the maiden name of the bride's mother please. I can see Susannah but not her surname. Your help would be appreciated.

I see it as either Neihmonley or Neihmonbey. I stand to be corrected, but that is how it looks to me.

A possibility is Nechmonley, but I am put off by what appears to be the dot above an i.

The writing is a little too small to be more certain.

I was thinking perhaps Neik????ey. The reproduction is poor but is exactly what was sent to me from BDM Victoria. Because the daughter Susan De Villiers was born in Prince Alfred South Africa, I'm thinking the name would be of Dutch origin maybe?
Thanks for taking a stab A Chesters :-)

I had considered Neik.. but I was not sufficiently convinced of the k as opposed to the h.

I keep seeing the end of the word as trey or frey, though there is no tail to the f and no crossing of the t. Image is awful. Can you request a clearer copy?

Did Daniel and Susannah marry in SAfrica? If so, have you looked for an appropriate marriage there?

Later events in the life of Susan BLAKE might offer possibilities to identify her origins.

What happens next in this family....when John Austin BLAKE and Susan De Villers are no longer at Wonthaggi?

Do they have any children?

John Austin BLAKE, painter....and Susan BLAKE are at 9 Scotia St Moonee Ponds Electoral Roll 1909.

Both are free to marry at 1914....why not sooner?.

Witness Esther A(nnie) KEMP is religious sister at Wonthaggi.

Certificates to consider which might include Susannah’s maiden surname:
- Other children’s birth, marriage or death certificates
- Susannah’s death certificate

I think REICHENBERG or a misspelled variant of it.
