MH- many congrats on the birth of the new granchild...so exciting for you all..

Ruskie  - glad you like the sound of the recipe... I would normally put garlic in but the fish cakes were already spicy and didn’t want to detract from that flavour... nice and simple and a good variant on potatoes... I’ve done it with other pulses too...
To make a snack.. healthy you can coat chick peas in spice and put in the oven to harden slightly and they taste delicious... I’ve used curry powder, smoked paprika .. nice nibble in the summer with drinks in the sunshine... just right for you at the moment!

Diana -  -21 does not even bare thinking about! It’s going to be that overnight in Scotland tonight apparently brrr is all I can say! I’m sure you’re used to it as it’s normal for your winters...
By the way do you get chipmunks in the garden? My half brother who lives in Wasaga Bay and they back on to woodland get them... he sent me pictures and video of him sitting on the deck very still with a bowl of nuts on his lap and they come and sit on his knee to eat them!

Roobarb - yes not so brave today... inside in the warmth! 😀

Caroline, yes we have chipmunks, they are the cutest things, I assumed they were in UK too.  They like to go up the plastic drainpipes that hitch to the drain pipes from the roof.  They also turn up under the bird feeder, feasting on the ground, along with the mourning doves and squirrels.  Not this time of year, we don’t fill the feeders after October or so, start again in April.
I would love to feed them by hand, but having a dog makes that impossible. He demands to be outside if I am outside.

Decided as it was gloriously sunny ,to take my walk mid day, it was really lovely. However, there was a funeral in the Cemetery so I avoided that area , so many cars ,thirty or so, but a very pleasant walk.
Just eaten, a home made fish pie with grilled tomatoes and green beans ,there was parsley sauce in the pie .

One daffodil ready to open,in a pot of about seven, ready to place among the foliage of as yet not flowers ring shrubs.
Did a bit of that  last week but gradually more coming along.

No birdies as yet  at  the window feeder but have ordered nets of peanuts ,so if hung near the windows maybe  be the birds will come.
Noticed a new tree in my front garden, not planted by me!
It is the same as my Italian screening trees ,so obviously a cone that has self sown,I pull the cones off because they look like what dog owners ought to pick up!Horrible.
Need to sort out the hanging basket ,the Ivy has taken over so it can go elsewhere , as ground cover perhaps in the small shrubbery at the end of the garden. There are bluebells down there in profusion, but I think they will
cope .
Fish pond frozen ,but aerator still bubbling under the ice.
I don’t feed the fish in winter but they remember when I tap on the side and are waiting for me to feed them.
It is said goldfish have no memories but I don’t believe that.

Son at Specialist on Friday re his mystifying symptoms.
Not heart, not digestion, lots of tests  and  treatments but no solution.
It is spoiling his retirement ,and his temperament, the calmest most placid person is now tetchy and snappy .
He was taken off a plane pre Covid this time last year, because of chest pains etc.The plane had not set off you understand  ;D

Got some nice grapes, apples and celery, chutney and an unopened box of biscuits for cheese, so there is tea sorted.

Nice news of the new arrival.
Flash Harry’s books have arrived at his Nanny’s -she  is quarantining them and will hand them over so his parents can also do that.
Postscript are very good.

Well that is all from me ,look after yourselves .
Viktoria.

Pleased to hear you got out for a walk Viktoria. Lots of signs of spring, the weather forecast here is much warmer next week so I hope it's the same for you. Such a frustrating time for your son, hope they identify the problem and you get your placid one back.

More snow overnight and attach photo of our car park - my car is the middle one you can see.   This is why I did not want to drive across town to the dentist yesterday.   Would no doubt have ended up doing a few 'waltzing Matilda's'!! (or worse).

Just an ordinary lockdown day for me and the usual activities.   Caught up with Long Lost Family - felt for the Chinese lady but nice that the lady who'd arrived here on the same day as her with whom she'd already made friends with should turn out to be one of those distantly related to her.

Turkey escalope for main meal which was really nice followed by blackcurrant cheesecake.   Was going to have a glass of wine but forgot in the end.

Stayed up too late working on jigsaw - they are like a drug to me sometimes, can't leave them alone!

Read for a while before sleeping but went out like a light.

Roobarb, have you tried using aquarell - type pencil crayons for delicate artwork such as small birds? They are exactly like normal pencil crayons, but can be blended with a water-loaded brush. When that has dried you can then work again on the image dry, and get a richness and intensity you might find effective and appropriate. Of course it's best to use thick paper, or tape it to a board to avoid stretch wrinkles, but they can be good to use outdoors, and delightful for small birds or insects.
Do you work from observation. or are you attempting to work from photos? They're very different ways of working.

Annette, certainly looks like a good skating rink! I'm surprised that the one on the left appears to have been out, notoriously good at doing the Waltzing Matilda! Unless they have winter tyres on. Better weather forecast soon.  :)

I haven't used those specific ones TY. Are they watercolour pencils? If so I do have a set of those and have used them in the past. I also have Inktense pencils which work in a similar way, they (as the name suggests) give very intense colours. I have pastel pencils too, you name it I've got it! Apart from Aquarelle of course.  :D
I use photos that are mainly ones I've taken myself and have therefore chosen the subject and composed the photo after observing the details of the scene. As for working en plein air, I have done that on occasions but not in any place that I'm likely to be observed! The one I've just completed in polychromos pencils is of a wren, I think it would be quite a challenge to do that from personal observation, particularly right now in the snow and freezing conditions!  ;D

Thanks Roobarb, hopefully some information on Friday.
He ought to try going privately I think, but why he should have to ——?

What a lot of snow !
A bird on the bird table this morning ,looked like a Bullfinch, very strong beak, browns , eating the fat block.

Did all the bathroom, and tidied the front bedroom where many large presents are still waiting!
Roobarb, did you say there is no need to print a label for the Post Office collection  service,a hand written one will do?

 How is the baby Annette?
What did it weigh and has a name been chosen?

I know the jigsaw syndrome ,” I will just do three more pieces” ——-
An hour later!

Well Corrie time, why I watch I do not know ,except I saw the very first episode. :P
Cheerio.Viktoria.

Just modified this, looked in my bird book ,more like a Hawfinch .V.

Quiet day here, trying to stay off walking, leg seems a bit better and got a good night’s sleep, which always helps.  Had to do some online work this morning and then sorted jigsaw pieces on my bed, have divided it into three sections so I can do a bit at a time at the table.  Certainly understand  the jigsaw addiction, Annette and Viktoria.  Like your photo, Annette!  We have 2 cars, the Mazda is buried at the end of the driveway, fortunately not blocking the other one that lives in the garage, and the Mazda’s battery has been dead since Monday.  Its battery is fairly new but it was just too cold for the poor old thing.  Snow tires go on in November and off in April!  Haha, waltzing Matildas!  Not funny when they’re happening, though.  When I see those narrow winding British roads...yikes, scary without snow.  I remember driving with my father in England years ago, I thought we were all done for.  And on the other side of the road!
Meatballs with mushroom sauce tonight.
