Hi Sandra,

I may have had a breakthrough with the female R.P. Sands born in 1942 who married a Mr Fotheringham. There is an R. Fotheringham on Facebook. She gives very little personal information except the school she went to in Edinburgh which was a local Catholic School. If I am correct then her father would have been Charles Sands born 1910 son of Charles and Alice. He married in 1934 and his address is Calton Road Edinburgh, which is near the High Street where R.P. mentioned her granny had a shop. It would seem he died in 1976 and from the index on SP his mms was Barclay.

I will try to contact her on facebook and hoping we get a response.

Dorrie you are making excellent progress. Perhaps R P would be able to mention the CWGC appeal to a any family members who may still be living in Scotland.

Pleased to be of help Sandra.

Looking at the photos on her facebook page she mentions a niece in Scotland. Also the first name of her husband which ties up with the marriage index on SP.

I have also been given a couple of names by my son for connections to R. Sands born in 1949. Will pursue them too.

Take care too

Hi Sandra it's me again.

Messages sent to R.P. Sands and the two other connections of R. Sands born in 1949 given to me by my son.

Fingers crossed they will open the messages and get back to me.

Will update you when I get a response.

Take care,

I have had a response from the names given to me by my son.

They think that the C. Sands who registered Charles Sands death (father of William Sands) in 1961 was their dad's uncle. Their dad being the R. Sands born in 1949. They are going to send me a mobile number for R. Sands so I can contact him.

Looks like a we may have made some progress.

Take care,

Dorrie

Hi Sandra,
I have had a phone call from the R. Sands born in 1949. He has confirmed that he is related to -
C. Sands born 1935
H.M. Sands born 1938
R.P. Sands born 1942.

The only thing is he cannot remember the name of his granny as he doesn't remember her but will phone his brother tonight to ask him.

Another piece of information he gave me was that his uncle and his father married sisters. I now have to check their marriages on SP to see if there was a definite connection to Charles Sands and Alice Barclay parents of William Sands.

Will report back when I have checked this out and heard back from R. Sands.
