BAXTER X CLARK
« on: Saturday 13 February 21 13:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm new I've exhausted the ancestry site so I googled to see if I could find anything to help I have a huge dead end in my family tree. I've tried going around it every which way using siblings and uncles but I just can't budge this mystery.

My first mystery is my William Clark family tree. It blends with Baxter in Yelling. The issue is on the 1881 census it shows grandad James Baxter living with his son Thomas and Sarah Baxter. But I can't find any other census with his name on. There's a lot of John Baxters and even a typo of Boxter on one census. I can't ascertain if its John or James Baxter 1822/1862 but Thomas and Sarah Baxter are on every census from 1841- 1911.

My Grandmother is a banardos child and rumour is my grandfather Willie Clark walked to London as a navie when he met her working for the Tate family. She lied about her age to marry him and escape back to huntingdon. The landlord reclaimed his land after seeing them do well so they moved to Bedfordshire. I can't find Mary Miles on any papers or surveys. So I'm wondering if anyone knows of her. Or my great grandfather, who was known as a bit desperate to sell off children as he had 13.

Have you the marriage certificate as that should have some information to start with.

What year did they marry?

Age is wrong but 1871 Yelling has this family transcribed as Baster

William Baster 32
Betsy 27
Ann 10
Rhoda 5
Mary Shepperd 66 mother in law
James Baster 52
Ann 62
John 26
Tom 17

Underneath on the census is a

Either of those the Willie Clark who walked to London?

Will stop there in case on the wrong track.

That's right Tazie that's the marriage. Prior to that I have 1911 census and birth of William as being Huntingdon.

Baster is interesting I need to investigate that more to see if it's a mistake.

Thanks for the help

You had me there for a moment.... What I have is Thomas Baxter x Ann Cullip = Ellen Baxter (have this on all the other census'
John or James is the father Baxter x possibly Sarah Baxter.
