He wasn't in the military when he married - occupation fruit grower

He may have been in a reserved occupation - or given permission not to go as his partner had signed up and someone needed to run the company and produce food

Or  he may not have been deemed fit to serve - my grandfather wasn't (and lived to 79!)

You could try the Hextable Historical Society www.hextable-heritage.co.U.K.

That should be lower case u k at the end but my iPad insists on changing it every time which is infuriating!
