Viktoria, have often wondered about the Pendle witches, my father was born in Burnley and his mother’s lines were all from the surrounding area.  I will have to look up some info on them.

As far as I remember,( I was not alive at the time you understand! ;D) the centre of activity was Padiham, North Lancashire .
Elizabeth Southerns,(Old Demdyke)
Alice Nutter of Roughlee.
Someone called Slattocks.
Tried at Lancaster Castle in the reign of James 11612 ish.
Best of luck.
Viktoria, ( no hairdresser for over a year ,squinty eyes from drops and treatment —— if I forget to put my two false teeth in I
might very well end up in Lancaster castle myself )
So watch it  >:(

Viktoria, thanks for the information.  I have ancestors born in Roughlee and Padiham, so you never know!
One of my children’s ancestors was locked up in Lancaster Castle in the 1840’s, Or even a bit earlier. I think it was a religious protest.  He was a Londoner, but married a young woman in Lancashire.  He was a Methodist minister in England, then moved to Canada where he was a Baptist minister.  Fascinating stuff, family history!

Have you read The Familiars by Stacey Halls? It's fiction, set around the Pendle witch trials, the background historical facts are correct. I highly recommend it, it's really well written and currently only £1.90 for the Kindle edition.
I sound like I'm being paid for this!  ;D  I'm honestly not but it's such a good  book and I learned a lot from it about what happened during those dreadful times.

Did you spot my deliberate mistake?
I put 11612 ,of course I meant 1612.
I think my typing finger is suffering jet lag!

Sounds interesting.  I don’t read electronically, but maybe I can find a copy somewhere.

The paperback is £2 from Amazon UK,  have checked Amazon CA, it's 19 Canadian dollars, not sure whether that's a bargain or not.  :D

It’s a good book Roobarb- I’ve read it too and her other one The Foundling and she’s now got a new one out called Mrs England...

Viktoria- so sorry to read about your daughters horse, it must be very stressful for her... do hope the stables take better care of him..
