Henry Whitefield: 1847-1896

Long shot but looking for any info on this gentleman who we think was born in Bideford and was The Master of Phoebe. Would like to know anything about the boat etc Born 1847 and died 1896. Thank you.

Is htis your man? Clovelly - 1861. All born there except as shown

Richard Ockenden    68  - pensioner of the old coastguard b Sussex, Seaford
Mary Ockenden    62 - b Sussex, Pyham
Robert Whitefield    45 - son in law, druggist
Harriet Whitefield    39 - daughter  B Selsey Bill

Witnesses William Thomas and Jemima Beer


Certificates for him as second mate in 1867  - record of experience on boats out of Bideford, Newport (not clear which one), Dartmouth and Lancaster and then only mate in 1868 - mostly London boats plus Newport again - and master in 1872

Can you tell us what year/s he was master of PHOEBE and if possible what port she belonged to.
PHEOBE is a fairly common name for a ship.

Do's it show his Masters certificate number on the documents you have found.
