I'm researching Joel Curtis, also known as Joseph, (and also known commonly as Brimble) of Farmborough, Somerset.
Please can you help me to find a census record for 1871 and a marriage record.
He was baptised as Joel Curtis on 21 Apr 1844 in High Littleton, Somerset, England. He died on 16 August 1913 at the County Asylum, Wells, Somerset where he’s listed as ’Curtis - Joel or Joseph’.
His father was James Curtis who was also known commonly as James Brimble. (James’ mother Ann Curtis/Curtice had 4 sons when she was single, before she married William Brimble in 1813.)
The 1861 census records him as Joel Brimble, son of James Brimble. He was living with his family in Farmborough, Somerset and was employed like his father James Brimble as a Coal Miner.
Around 1866 he married Ann. Some trees on Ancestry list her as Ann Lansdown Sweet but without records to confirm this.
Their first child was born in Somerset, the next two in Wales, so likely that they were in Wales in 1871:
Birth of Daughter Levinia Curtis, 1867 • Clutton, Somerset, England
Birth of Son Joseph Curtis abt 1870 • Mountain Ash, Glamorgan, Wales
Birth of Son James Curtis abt 1872 • Mountain Ash, Glamorgan, Wales
Birth of Son Gomer Curtis, 1874 • Clutton, Somerset, England.
The 1881 census records him as Joseph Curtis living at Clutton Hill, Farmborough, Somerset with his wife Ann and 6 children, employed as a Coal Miner.
I have records after this date.
Thank you.
