My apologies for confusing you, GG. A senior moment; Alfred was my paternal grandfather, whereas Albert was my maternal grandfather and the ship’s steward. So I definitely meant Albert Ernest Hammond, born 16 Feb 1884. He always used both Christian names, which is just as well as there was another ship’s steward called just Albert Hammond.
