Hi all,looking for more info on the above.Got info from fold 3, regarding pension,states two army numbers,38612 in brackets then above original number 49869.
Can't find any service records maybe they were destroyed during enemy action W.W.2.
Can anyone tell me from the above numbers which regiment/s he was in please?

Thank you so much Ladyhawk.Don't recall seeing the regiment listed on Fold3 .Story down the family says that John  was "gassed" hence all the suffering he endured up until his death.Could any kind soul out there point me in the right direction to as where John would have probably been stationed and engaged the enemy abroad?

Thanks for the link Ladyhawk, I'm  bit confused here.Does it mean the Welch regiment unit he was in  were an arm of the Worcester regiment?

Soldiers with the name John Mack served in the Welch Regiment and the Worcester Regiment.
Could be the same man. However, not able to find any WW1 medal records for a John Mack with these service numbers. This would normally indicate that the man did not serve overseas in a theatre of war - so does not tie in with the family story of gas wounds.

Thank you Tony for your input.Sounds very plausible what you're saying. Like I said the story was passed down so maybe it wasn't so.Makes total sense regarding the two numbers.Many thanks both for your contributions.
