William Potter
« on: Thursday 25 February 21 17:48 GMT (UK) »
I have posted in the past regarding my 2nd GG uncle John Potter who was given a 14 year sentence in Van Diemen's land and I have lots of files and proof it was definitely him, I also think his brother William was sentenced and transported he got 7 years but I cant find much on him.

I found this file below could anyone help point me in the right direction for more files to prove he is Johns brother. he was born 1825 Liverpool.

Name:   William Potter
Marital status:   Single
Criminal Admission Age:   20
Record Type:   Register
Birth Date:   abt 1825
Birth Place:   Liverpool EC
Occupation:   Rope maker
Criminal Charge:   Stealing
Sentence:   7 Yrs
Criminal Admission Date:   8 Feb 1845
Source Description:   Hulks: Register of Prisoners on the Hulk Europa, At Gibraltar

Any help would be of great use.
Kind Regards,
Tom

Have you checked the UK 1841 census, since he was transported in 1845 he could be on that with his parents? So if you know his parents names that would help to establish whether he is John's brother. All goes back to parish baptisms I think

Yes I did look for him on the 1841 census but could not find him living with his parents John & Elizabeth I think this is a strong possibility it is him because he has offenses before he got his 7 year sentence, Thanks for the info.

Kind Regards
Tom
