FH enjoyed having the butterfly eggs ,saw the caterpillars emerge, pupate and the butterflies. There was a sort of cage with the kit.
Not sure where they were bought  from, and of course may be according to season..
My grandson enjoyed having a telescope ,a reasonably decent one, not expensive .
You will think of something exciting.
Really good magnifying glasses are exciting .
Microscope and slides, can get those reasonably priced second hand.
I think there is a way of making their own slides.
Things like that lead on to others.
My son loved Dinky. Corgi  and Matchbox cars
Without any tuition he can strip an engine down.well do anything.
Has rebuilt a Lambretta, and my old Moped.
When at three he took the tyres off his little cars ,his grandma said he was destructive ,I said watch him put them back though!
He could too.
