Yes it is on Free bmd

but free bmd won't have the mother's maiden name.  You would need to go to the GRO website for that.

Only the newer index on the GRO site has mother's maiden names prior to 1911, FreeBMD was compiled from the old typed index which didn't have mmn till after 1911.

You need to register, (that's free) to be able to search. If you find one of interest, should you wish, you can order copies
£11 for a birth/death certificate, or £7 for a pdf of the register entry - same info just the cheaper one  isn't on a posh bit of paper.

Thanks again Girl Guide and Boo. You probably realise I’m a novice at this. I have already registered on the GRO site and ordered certificates but had no idea that it was possible to look people up. So you’ve given me some very useful info.
