Sadly, the mother of Isaac's children was not recorded at Chelmsford.
While the Suffolk Record Office has yet to make images of parish registers available online, the transcripts published by the
Suffolk Family History Society are most useful. The marriages don't give the names of witnesses and there is no mention of banns or licences but full dates and other details (such as prior marital status if not single) are included. The
Ipswich Deanery index for 1754-1812 has nine SADLER marriages:
1758 Sarah SADLER m. Isaac LAWES at Ipswich St Clement *
1763 Alice SADLER m. John TALMACH at Ipswich St Mary Quay
1787 Thomas SADLER of Henley (Suffolk) m. Mary LING at Ipswich St Matthew **
1788 Thomas SADLER of Ipswich St Peter m. Mary SIMONDS at Ipswich St Margaret ***
1792 Mary SADLER m. William SURGUN at Ipswich St Matthew ** **
1803 Peter SADLER m. Eleanor ELLIS at Ipswich St Peter
1803 Susanna Thrower SADLER m. James BRUCE at Ipswich St Nicholas ** * **
1804 Elizabeth SADLER m. Robert NUNN of Bildeston (Suffolk) at Ipswich St Mary Quay
1809 Susannah SADLER m. Thomas WHITE of Colchester St Mary Magdalene (Essex) at Ipswich St Clement
*
Suffolk Archives marriage licence bond: Isaac LAWES was a mariner.
** Suffolk FHS transcripts reveal no SADLER baptisms at Henley from 1754 to 1812 but six children of Thomas SADLER and Mary late LING at Witnesham between 1787 and 1801, including Mary Ann in 1789 (burial 1791: Mary) and Marianne in 1794. Thomas SADLER of Witnesham died in 1838 aged 74 (b. 1763-64).
*** Several children of Thomas SADLER and Mary née SIMONDS were baptized at Ipswich St Peter between 1789 and 1800, e.g. Thomas in 1789 and Ambrose in 1797. Their father may have been the son of Ambrose and Elizabeth SADLER who was baptized at Ipswich St Peter in 1758 and apparently buried there in 1803.
** ** Baptisms at Ipswich St Matthew:
1792 Marianne daughter of William SURGEON and
Marianne late SADLER
1794 William son of William SURGUN and Mary late SADLER
** * ** Susanna Thrower SADLER was a daughter of John and Susanna SADLER, baptized at Ipswich St Peter in 1782. John may have been another son of Ambrose and Elizabeth SADLER, baptized there in 1755.
