I think there was a Jacob FARRER (mmn FITZJOHN)  born 1864, and Isaac born 1866, also registered at Uxbridge, so Martha not the youngest.  ;)

There are a couple of mentions of a Benjamin FITZJOHN in Hertsfordshire in newspapers that may be of interest. Happy to transcribe if I get a bit of time later.

Possible marriage:
Benjamin FITZJOHN to Martha BENNETT 10 March 1816 at Walkern.

And possible baptism:
Benjamin FITZJOHN 3 July 1796 at Walkern to George and Edee.

"  SINGULAR AND FATAL ACCIDENT.- An inquest was
held at the Infirmary, Hertford, on Friday (yesterday)
before T. Sworder, Esq., coroner, on the body of John
Winch, a shoemaker, 61 years of age, living in Port
Vale, Hertford, who met his death under the following
circumstances:- On the evening of Sunday, the 9th
inst., the deceased left Mowbray's public-house at
Waterford, about eight o'clock. Immediately after he
had left he was heard to scream, and on going to the
spot, he was found lying in the road just before the
wheel of a cart, apparently much hurt. There was a
man and a woman in the cart, but they did not get out
to render assistance; and on being asked to turn back
and drive the deceased to the Infirmary, the man de-
clined to do so. He was, however, conveyed there that
night. The man whose name is Benjamin Fitzjohn,
of Walkern, stated that he was drivinggently
through Waterford at the time in question, and saw a
man standing in the road. He should have passed the
deceased with safety, but just as he reached him, he
rushed forward and clutched at the reins, which he
missed, and fell under the horse. Witness asserted that
the wheel did not go over the deceased, but just touched
him. He refused to take him to the Infirmary because
he was behind time and wanted to get home. The
medical evidence showed that though no bones were
broken, the left leg of the deceased was very much
injured; intense inflamation set in, and he died from
exhaustion on the 26th inst. It was a very dark night
and the deceased could not see the cart coming. The
driver of the cart was enabled to see him because he
stood near an open door. The deceased was very deaf.
The jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death."

Saturday,  Sept. 29, 1866 Hertford Mercury and Reformer

I think this is the son of Benjamin and Martha FITZJOHN, as Martha appears as a widow in the 1851 census at Ardeley:
Samuel FITZJOHN   27   ag lab  Walkern
Edward   (son)           4
Martha  (wid, mother) 57  Barley
HO 107/1707 pg2

James Smith, aged 18, labourer, of Datchworth, was
indicted for breaking into the dwelling house of Benjamin
Fitzjohn, of Yardley, and stealing therein a gown, a
shawl, a cake of bread, &c. his property.
Martha Fitzjohn, wife of the prosecutor:- On Tuesday
last, the 12th May, went to work in the fields; locked
up doors and fastened the window when I left; looked
up from my work and saw one of the windows open, and
something thrown out; when I got home found the house
broken open and my gown gone from my bedside &c. ; told
my husband when he came home.
Benjamin Fitzjohn, tracked him into a wood and then
with others surrounding the wood drove him out; he then
found him in a ditch, covered up with a parcel of briars;
his son pulled him out.
The son on his examination said as he took him out of
the ditch he said "what do you want me for, I an't broke
into the house;" they took him to Yardley; he said if my
mother would forgive him he would tell where the things
laid. The constable went with them to the ditch where
the prisoner was found, and the prisoner picked up the
things.
The prisoner said he did not go into the house or on to
the premises.
Guilty, and sentenced to be transported for 10 years."

Saturday,  May 23, 1840, Hertford Mercury and Reformer

[Note Yardley is also Ardeley]

This is so great, thank you! So Martha not the youngest... I still haven't found her in 1881, I wonder if maybe at one of her siblings, or perhaps a workplace. Will keep looking, but I only have access to the library version of Ancestry, and free online info, so I greatly appreciate all your help.

I haven't even started on William Edward Hoare, Martha's husband. I know he was a printer/compositer, he was born in Luton about 1859, his father's name was Isaac (a dealer) and lived at 12 Dumfries St Luton in 1881 census and at the time of his marriage in 1882. I haven't yet been able to find much about him prior to 1881/2 either.

Thanks so much again!

These news articles are interesting! If the Benjamin Fitzjohn driving the cart was Martha (nee Bennet)'s husband, driving in 1866, she couldn't have been widowed in 1851?

Sorry, I meant the Benjamin driving the cart was the son of Benjamin and Martha.  :)
