By the time we get to 1881 it is just the parents George & Lucy with Charlotte and William.  The other children have obviously moved on.

I'll have a look and see what turns up for George (1857) for the 1881 census.

The George that I have been following is here in 1881 - Titsey Place, Titsey, Godstone, Surrey

He is a Groom (Domestic) born in Brasted

I'll have a look at the 1891 census and if I find him in it, then he won't be your George.

I have just had another look and a few things do not match with the info I have so far

George Barnett 1867 is on the census as born Tunbridge Well although I don’t think that Brasted is that far but on George’s marriage certificate

George Barnett senior is on there as George Barnett (deceased) occupation, Coastguard this does not fit in with ag labour. My thoughts are that coastguards those days were ex mariners. Also would you be living in the middle of the country as a coastguard?

I did do a DNA test last year to see for any matches but the closest I got was a 4/6 cousins and nothing on there trees light a light bulb in my head. A lot of the 4/6 cousins were from America??? I know nothing of any Barnett going to America.

George Barnett 1867 married Alice Bright from Devon, what was he doing there? I know from my father and grandfather the George Barnett 1867 was a mariner but surely he would have been based around Kent or Portsmouth.

I don’t know, they are driving me to distraction 🙃😉

You can forget about the George that I have been chasing.  Found that one in 1891 born Brasted,  married to a Jane with four children, living in Croydon.  Occupation bricklayer.

Did you find your George in 1881 at all?  Have you looked for any records in connection with Coastguards?

Don't you think that it is a little odd for George to be born in Tunbridge Wells and his father to be a coastguard?  One would have thought that the family would be living near to the sea.

Straight down from Tunbridge is Eastbourne which is about 37 miles away.

I cannot find either of the George Barnett’s on the 1871 or 81 census

I thought that George Barnett 1867 May have already joined the mariners for the 1881 census so may not be listed to an address.

As with George Barnett senior, I did have a look on Ancestry for coastguards but it wanted to know where he was stationed, I don’t have a clue, my father and his sister did not even know that he was a coastguard until I ordered George and Alice marriage certificate.

I really do appreciate the help you have given me today, thank you
