Leonard Stanley
« on: Saturday 20 March 21 07:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am wondering if anyone knows where early baptisms for the village of Leonard Stanley may be found.

My 9th gt-grandfather was Richard Haynes (or Haines), who was baptised at Leonard Stanley on 14th Aug 1614. His parents, Edward Haynes and Margery Chamberline had married there on 18th Jul 1613.

Richard Haynes had a son Thomas Haynes, baptised at Frampton on Severn on 30th Aug 1635. He is my 8th gt-grandfather. He married at Frampton on Severn on 7th Jul 1661.

On the 26th Feb 1662 Edward Haines (or Haynes) married Rosamund Clifford at Frampton on Severn.

I have worked back to Edward Haynes in the tree of an Ancestry DNA match of mine. We suspect that Edward is the son of Richard and Margery, particularly as Richard's father was Edward. However, we cannot find a reference to Edward's baptism. It might have been at Frampton on Severn, the same as Thomas, or at Leonard Stanley, or near Coaley (see below).

It seems likely that Richard Haynes married Katerine Mabet at the nearby village of Coaley, in Jan 1635. In that case it would appear that Edward is a little younger than Thomas, and somewhere in the range 1635 to 1644, in order to marry in 1662.

Any help in finding Edward's baptism, would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Gordon

Ancestry say that they have the parish registers for Leonard Stanley from 1575.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

If you go into the website

There is a list of Men in Armour for Gloucestershire 1608

There you can find anyone with the surname Haynes  or variations of.
