Seeking a Grave and Headstone Location: Allerton Cemetery, Liverpool
« on: Wednesday 24 March 21 08:26 GMT (UK) »
Good morning,

Thanks to the kind help of Roots and members I've recently been able to find the grave and headstone of my paternal grandparents.

To complete the story I'm hoping to now find the same of my maternal grandparents, who I understand are buried at Allerton Cemetery in Liverpool, unfortunately I have very limited information for my grandfather, who I never met as he passed away before I was born, but all I have is as below.

Maternal Grandfather: George Hunt, date of death unknown but he is entered as deceased on my late parents marriage certificate of 1950; as my mother was born in 1924, I can only guess that he passed away sometime between 1924 - 1950, his occupation on the marriage certificate is that of a Chemist

My Maternal Grandmother: Gertrude Hunt (Maiden name 'Young') Passed away on or around 1978 and would be in the same grave as my grandfather

As always any help in finding the grave or direction to other source of information would be very much appreciated.

Alan

Findagrave doesn't seem to list their burials at that cemetery.

Hello Alan,

Allerton Cemetery records are online on Ancestry, in the England & Scotland, Select Cemetery Registers, 1800-2016 record set.

There is a Gertrude Hunt in Allerton Cemetery, buried 16 Mar 1979, from an address in Edge Hill. Section CH23, Grave 633. They haven't indexed the grave numbers, but section numbers with letters didn't seem to start until 1978

You could also check the 1939 Register for her.

Thank you all so much for this and your time.

Absolutely all correct as my grandmother was from the Edge Hill area and the date of death also fits in perfectly.

Thanks also for the additional information on my grandfather it is a real bonus for me as until today nothing was known.

He appears to have died in Manchester

www.lancsbmd.org.uk show entry as George Ernest Hunt aged 38

www.freebmd.org.uk  Dec qtr 1926 Manchester South 8d 264

Given the 53yr gap between his death & Gertrude's & particularly the location of his death - he may not be buried in Liverpool.
