Marriage of a William BLAKE in Hordle, Hampshire
« on: Thursday 25 March 21 17:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Looking please for a marriage of William BLAKE in Hordle, Lymington, Hampshire to a Phoebe. He was born I believe in 1794 and she was born about 1797.

It would have been prior to 1831 when they had Maria who I believe was the first child. But obviously could have been earlier.

TIA
Tom

Hi Rosie,

Blimey, that was quick. Thanks very much. There was another son Harry born 1844/5 I thought I had found the record but very difficult to read. It almost looks like there is another child's name next to him but it is not readable. Harry is the line my friend is interested as it is direct line.

Thank you again

There is no Harry with the family in 1851 and Phoebe seems to be Charity  ::)

Hi Rosie,

Yes I saw that 1851 entry but I am not absolutely certain that is the same family. I have them in the 1861 census and Harry is mentioned in that.

The children all tie in  :-\

1841 has
William 47
Phoebe 41
Maria 10
Ellen 8
William 3
Frederick 1.

Richard who is born after this census dies in infancy.

1851
William 55
Charity 50  ::)
Ellen 17
William 13
Frederick 11

1861

William 68
Phoebe 64
George 30 (plus his wife Emma)
Frederick 21
Harry 16

I am wondering in the absence of a baptism or birth record for Harry and that he should be with the family in 1851 whether he is the illegitimate son of one of the daughters of William & Phoebe.

There was another son Harry born 1844/5 I thought I had found the record but very difficult to read. It almost looks like there is another child's name next to him but it is not readable. Harry is the line my friend is interested as it is direct line.

Where was this record,  was it a baptism

Hi Rosie,

It does seem odd certainly.

Harry did in fact marry the illegitimate daughter of George's wife Emma (Esther) DOWDEN who was in the 1861 census at the house with them, but listed as Hester DOWDEN. The relationship to the head of house is overwritten and unreadable.
