You can travel anywhere in England with no restrictions on distance, however:-

You should minimise travel where possible. This means you should:
avoid making unnecessary trips
combine trips where possible
You should not stay away from home overnight for a holiday.

In other words if you want to travel to the beach and it is 90 miles away that is acceptable as otherwise you cannot visit the beach, but you must return to your main home to sleep overnight.

The idea is you are not restricted to any particular limit but if it is possible to visit a closer destination that is not going to be overcrowded that would be better.
They are hoping the public will use common sense.
Cheers

Good luck with ‘the common sense’ idea!

Most of us know what we should and shouldn’t be doing but sadly there are always those who will stretch the guidance as far as possible...
Let’s hope everyone is sensible and therefore not ruining it for all those who have stuck to the guidelines....
Having both vaccinations at the moment doesn’t mean you can go and hug every friend, relative anytime soon....
We need to stick with it but I do wish the government would make it crystal clear.... perhaps they’re just relying on most people’s good sense...

Matt Hancock was interviewed today on This Morning, this was one of the questions put to him. He said :

"We’re saying that you should minimise travel, but if you want to travel to see friends and family then that is absolutely fine - no matter where they are in England.

"There’s different rules from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and international travel is difficult and in fact, going on holiday abroad is still not allowed."

He also said that next weekend he would be going home to Suffolk but only for the day as an overnight stay is not allowed.

So pretty much what Guy said.

We’ve been the furthest we’ve been since sometime last year today . We went to an Argos to collect a needed new child’s car seat and this was the nearest Argos that had it in stock. 8 miles there, 8 miles back. ( We’re in England) . Felt very strange driving so far from home, but at least what we did was legal and we couldn’t be fined. I’d love to go to the beach - about 10/12 miles away but today’s weather wasn’t great.

Lovely forecast for tomorrow candleflame but the trouble with that is that everyone has the same idea when the sun shines! I stay away from the beach when the weather's at its best, particularly at weekends.  :)

Thank you all for your replies.

We just want to do what is legal and right, to prevent the chain of events that could lead to people losing their lives. We have also taken the stance that just because we are allowed to do something, doesn't always mean it is a good idea to do it.

It will be such a great tonic to venture out from our little patch. On our daily lockdown walk, we are even recognising individual cows, and they are even giving us a little knowing look back.  ;D It's not such a bad thing though.

One has a big white diamond shape on her head. Of course, her name has to be "Diamond Cheeser". Oh and the brown one, is called "Brown Cow".

Sorry for this - I was always told that "brown" cows were RED.  But, as I was brought up in Cheshire, it might very well be a location thing.  :) :-X
