"Potential"ancestors
« on: Tuesday 30 March 21 20:41 BST (UK) »
More to the point...how to get rid of! Ancestry have this couple as "potential" matches in my tree. However a will, a wedding certificate and a birth certificate say otherwise. There are over a dozen trees that match into this mess  and I have added notes to the owners where I can, but it's just annoying me to death that the simple matter of sending for some certs could sort this.  >:(
Sorry rant over

I had to laugh today had a potential hint.for a gggmothetr who I already had on.my tree suggested

It was suggested as ggfatjers  mother and I had her as his wife's mother

I know exactly which.tree that hint.came from.
My own.hypothesis tree...I'd had DNA matches to her name and saw family.resemblance in a photo of her
But had hypothesised wrong side of family .

A reminder to self to delete people from.hypothesis tree when proved wrong !.

There isn't a way!  In my case I messaged all the people (about 50) who were showing an incorrect link supplying the correct info and asking them to change their tree.  Thankfully enough did to break the thrulines link but think that is rare.

Also there is an option to attach a comment to the incorrect person in other people's trees, if you can get at them, which can be read both by the tree owner and anyone else looking.

Otherwise, very annoyingly, the wrong info is always out there for more and more people to copy.

The only way to get rid is to find the real ancestors surely

Brigidmac, That would be the plan but they've been a brickwall forever!

After years of resisting I caved and did the DNA thing and put my tree up to try and break a couple of long-standing brickwalls.  One may be crumbling (hoorah!).  Unfortunately, via the infamous "Hints",  I have also found many, many trees put together by people who believe you can baptise children several years before they are born at the other end of the country to single mothers who are married to fathers who are baptising children with several other wives - sometimes in two countries at once or after they're dead!  :o  I can't understand wanting to include people that aren't related in what is supposed to be a family tree - so much of it is such obvious nonsense.
