Jagah – Very interesting family, it would be more helpful with a less common name! :)
I have a few thoughts:

Do you have these military documents?
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C8761438

Have you had a look at this will  - a possibility might be worth exploring?
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D418511

There is a marriage in Edinburgh:
Captain John Brown to Margaret Gardiner – 18/07/1783

Someone on the military forum with knowledge about accessing military publications might have some suggestions for you.

I am assuming you have searched the Tasmanian Archives and the Victorian Archives?

Have any of the children middle names that might point to parents or g-parents. The name Napier would be worth exploring. Can you list the children in chronological order please.

alan of Kaslo,
hmm trying to make sure my sum are correct.
His daughter was born 1858 Port Arthur Tasmania, making Thomas about 46 years at her birth and correct 78 years if he was alive for her marriage in 1889.
His 1st child was born 1835 Hazareebaugh India and
His last child was born 1864 Tasmania.

I had wondered if he changed his age when he enlisted in 1827,but if he was born 1818/1819 he would be very young 12/13 when he enlisted.
thanks for making me double check everything to be sure.

Neale 1961,
Thank you also for your information,
I Have Thomas's fold 3 paper, marriage cert and death cert.
I want to have a good read through your suggestions and see if i haven't missed anything,
Tea Time here in Vic Australia, will reply later on.

Sparrett,
Euphemia was born 1858 Port Arthur Tasmania, mary would be about 38/39years,
but daughter Georgina was born 1st Feb 1864 Tasmania making mary 46 years???
I have there birth records from BDM Tasmania

many thanks everyone
Jagah

Just an update,

I have followed up on some information posted by Neale 1961,
whilst it was very interesting to read and search for the people mentioned
it did not bring me any closer to finding the parents or possible siblings of Thomas Browne.

I will continue to keep searching and hopefully one day this Brick wall will be knocked down.

Thank you to all who responded

Jagah

Jagah, thanks for the up-date.
I did some additional searching in various places that I could think of, but came up with nothing useful, except that Harold and John may have been born in China.
The only other idea would be to search Irish and English newspapers.

At the end of 3 hours of searching the Edinburgh postal directory from early 1800's I finally see an entry for Captain John Brown -northeast corner of Exchange. July 1800.

https://digital.nls.uk/directories/browse/archive/83158380

I also saw a couple Major Brown's but did say first name.

Was wondering if you had seen this reference to a Major John Browne in 1787. This one was 67 th Regiment who was under court martial , I don't think it's him.

https://books.google.ca/books?id=oG8EAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA455&lpg=PA455&dq=%22major+john+browne%22+%22edinburgh%22&source=bl&ots=W-H1A5GTJb&sig=ACfU3U27pgjqHrPiea0XnZF55bmAqH_M6Q&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjOmLuK3t7vAhUSgp4KHctCA1AQ6AEwCHoECAsQAw#v=onepage&q=%22major%20john%20browne%22%20%22edinburgh%22&f=false

Then I saw a different one with these credentials:

2675. Major John Browne.
Ens. 4th foot, 21st Oct. 1804; Lieut. 28th Feb. 1805;
Capt. 25th May, 1815 ; Capt. 92d foot, 12th Nov. 1818 ; brev.
Maj. 21st Jan. 1819. Served in Flanders, and was present at
the battle of Waterloo.

Do you anything about companies Major John Browne might have belonged to besides Gentleman Volunteers ?
