If you have all his history, then are you just wondering why he went to Yorkshire?
In 1861 he is an agricultural labourer and there are several Irish folk around Wadsley. He might have been related to the Murphys or from the same townland.
Word of mouth and shared counties/areas were often the means of emigration right into the 20th century.
I recall Graham Norton, I think it was, whose family moved to England to work on the land owners’ estate who had land in Ireland and England.
