Michael Collins' grandfather!
« on: Saturday 03 April 21 15:17 BST (UK) »
My brain is broken trying to find this! I'd be so grateful for anyone else's thoughts. I am trying to find out more about Michael Collins' father's father; this is Michael John Collins' dad, who I believe was called John Collins. I believe he married Margaret O'Sullivan. I don't have reliable dates.
My big questions are - did he have any other marriages, and did he have a daughter called Johanna Collins? I have looked on Ancestry trees and the usual online sources, and haven't made much progress.  ???

Hi,
Johanna Collins, have you got her birth record?
Her year of birth?
Work back from her it's easier.

Hiya, I haven't I'm afraid. All I have is an almost illegible record for her daughter Bridget's baptism in 1849 (attached). This was the only proof I could find that she was called Johanna Collins.

On the edge of that record it says "Sarrue" which is also written as "Saroo", which I believe is the same as Castleventry?

Sarue townland in Castleventry civil parish.

Castleventry townland is north-west of it.

Hi,
Michael Collins b 1890 Father Michael and Mother Maryanne O'Brien.
On Michael and Maryanne's marriage in 1876 his father was John and was deceased. They married in Rosscarberry.
This Bridget Donovan to Martin Donovan and Johnna Collins, the record you posted, you would have to find their marriage and then Johanna's birth.
There is a Marriage of a Margaret Sullivan to a John Collins in 1823 in Newmarket Co. Cork. this is near Kanturk.
Another in 1855 in Killavullen Co. Cork. Near to Mallow.
Did you know Michael could speak Welsh.
Civil records are from 1864, trying to find John Death.

This is where I get stuck! I can't seem to find a marriage record for Martin Donovan and Johanna Collins, but I keep finding records of their children, so I imagine they must have got married?! I had 1849 written down as a date but no idea where it came from  ???
Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.
