Sarah Dando Cardiff

I am trying to find out a bit more about my great grandfathers sister Sarah Elizabeth Dando she was born 1884 in Cardiff and in the 1901 census was listed as an imbecile. In 1911 she was in the Cardiff Union Workhouse hospital and she died 1944. I would like to find out more about her as she never married and her family seem to have forgotten her, i have wanted to go to the records office in Cardiff but with Lockdown this is difficult. Any advice on where to get more information?

The math on date of birth doesn't quite work out compared to age at death (1883 -1886)...but that is pretty close.

The 1891 entry for her is annotated "imbecile from childhood" so it looks as though she was born with disabilities

The 1901 shows  "imbecile"  On both censuses she was with her parents.  The 1901 has her as Sarah J but 1891 shows Sarah Elizabeth

Sarah's mother Mary Edwards died 1912. Her father John died 1934... also her brother Alfred died that same year 1934.  Sarah was youngest of 5 siblings.

There were 8 or 9 children - Sarah had 4 younger siblings - Clara, Charles B, Rosa & Maud

1891 has 2 sons both called William - one aged 14 & William H aged 9.  The 14yr old does not appear on the 1881 entry with John & Mary

Thanks everyone, my great grandfather was William Henry i have managed to trace back the Dandos and the Edwards and found some info on my great grandfathers siblings, i was interested to find out more about Sarah, how do i go about getting a copy of her death certificate would there be any medical records of when she was in the workhouse infirmary?

You can order Sarah's death certificate from the GRO as a pdf for £7.  If you haven't been on the GRO website before you will need to register first.

Click on the Order Certificates Online button, you will then need to register.  Once you have done that click on the Search the GRO Online Index (at the top right hand of the page in blue).

You then choose the Death option, fill in all the details, click on the little white button to the left of the name and you will see the pdf option.  Click on that and then follow the instructions from there.
