I wonder why they chose the surname Marsden .
Marskoff sounds Russian what were their origins ?

Have you found an alien registration document for any of them from WW1 ?
There would be a lot of information on there .

I could only find one Marskoff on Geneanet and that was Emma Marskoff marrying Heinrich Titas Borchert in Lubeck ,Schleswig,Germany early 1830's ..looks like they had 5 children - 1 son - 4 daughters

Hi,
Put you in the picture and as to name changes.  Apologise if long winded.
The surname is "Mazorkoff".  Often mispelt depending on who was listening/writing.
Abrahams parents were Joseph Mazorkoff born in Russia and remained a Russian Subject and Rachel Cutner born in Poland/Russia.

Abraham the first born  in Bristol.  Siblings born in Scotland, Hull and Liverpool.  Never found when parents came to the UK.  First Census I have is 1901 Liverpool.

Sometime ago someone wrote to me saying that Abraham had changed his surname to "Marsden" without a Deed Poll.  Further that he divorced his first wife Fanny Yeltsin in 1923 and co-respondent was Myer Mc.Kennell, whom she married in 1925.  Divorce papers state "Marskoff" .
In 1924 Abraham married Gertrude Ellenbogen.  Again "Marskoff" aka "Abe Marsden".  They must have divorced as she died in 1982 Canada.  In 1950 Abraham married Minnie Levene(aka Levine) and again "Marskoff" aka "Abe Marsden".

There is no Alien Register for Liverpool as they were destroyed in WW2.  Never found WW1 records either.

Always interested me how why surnames changed.   Regards Mazorkoff as above.  My surname is Boler.  Started in 1605 with "Bowler".  Later on parents "Bowler" and children down as "Boaler".  Then  "Boaler" and children "Bowler".  Then "Bowler" and children "Boler" and that carried on through the years.  So my family tree is a three way road following the Bowler, Boaler and Boler. My family derive directly from the "Boler" part.
Spellings are always as heard and sounded like.  Makes research a bit harder, but very interesting.
