High Easter
A Bad Way Of Spending A Sunday
- George Bailey, 14,
- and Arthur Bailey, 12,
- of Good Easter
- were charged with stealing a quarter peck of walnuts,
- value 2s 6d,
- the property of George Roots, a farmer, of High Easter,
- on Oct 23rd
- Roots stated he found the missing walnuts under a tree in a meadow,
- and found the boys hiding in a hedge
- George and Arthur pleaded guilty
- and Roots said he did not wish to press the case
- the boys were fined 5s and costs
- the Chairman said he hoped the father would give them a good whipping

Fall From A Stack
At Margaret Roding
- on Tues. afternoon, a thatcher named
- David Bailey, aged about 60, of Good Easter
- fell from a barley stack at Barton Hall, Margaret Roding,
- where he was engaged in thatching for
- Mr George Roots, farmer
- it appears Bailey had just got on the top of the stack
- with a bundle of straw, when a gust of wind caught him
- and carried both him and the straw to the ground
- Bailey hit his head and was unconscious for a while
- he was found by his son Frederick and was removed home
- Dr Tench attended to Bailey and said it will be several weeks
- before Bailey will be able to get about again

Charge Of Stealing and Receiving Hay
A Well-Known Chelmsford Man On His Defence
- on Friday, at Chelmsford Petty Session
- Frederick Bailey, a haybinder, of Good Easter,
- was charged with stealing 61 trusses of hay, value £6 17s 3d,
- the property of George Roots, his employer,
- a hay dealer, of High Easter;
- and Daniel Nightingirl,
- a well-known beerhousekeeper, coal merchant and contractor,
- was charged with receiving the same,
- well knowing it to be stolen
- Roots had purchased 3 stacks of hay, three years growth,
- from Mr Bodkin, of Chelmsford, for £147 10s
- Bailey was sent to cut and tie the hay
- Bailey was told he could sell the rough stuff
- case adjourned until next Friday
