Great information everyone, thank you.

I felt the Captain was lying when he said Elizabeth was not his wife's daughter or his own.

Somewhere I read that a waxworks model was made of William Andrew Jarvey. One on show in Pitt Street, Sydney, the other in Dunedin (?).

Although sad, it is an interesting story.

In this unrelated matter in Tasmania, William is described   in 1854 as a man of "character, education and experience. Competent to look into things a little"  ::)

Hi Minniehaha,

I wonder if the waxwork model might refer to his death mask (see my link above).

I wonder if the children might have gone to a Receiving Home or Industrial School?

Hi Spades,

Nice to see you pop in again...... ;D

I found many references to this character but unfortunately I didn't make a note of them all. I had read about the death mask and maybe it was this that was on display in the Wax Works. I have had another look and now of course I can't find those snippets.   ::)

Yes it is possible the younger children were taken into care, poor little mites. It is odd that England Jarvey in particular has not easily been found.

Coin from the Captain's pawn broker days found in 1924…..
