Following up on the emigration of Elizabeth Watterson in 1923, going to visit her brother-in-law Samuel Buick in Brooklyn, 669 Classon Ave.(thank you oldohiohome for this address transcription). Then on Oct 8, 1927, she is supposed to return to New York from Ireland but she did not sail on that date. I have the Oct 8th record stating that she was departing from her brother William Watterson in Ireland and going to her own home with her cousin Miss Mary Watterson at 2095 Nostrand Ave. But I am missing her return to Ireland abt 1925, so I am told, and then her actual return to Brooklyn, probably shortly after her booking of Oct 8, 1927. I don't find Miss Mary either, in Brooklyn at that address.
Thanks for any help

Fantastic, oldohiohome. Definitely her. I have looked for both Elizabeth and Mary at that address in 1930 but don’t find either of them I suppose they could have both married but it wouldn’t be the first time that I or others have found the emigration record but then don’t find them on the census. Wondering if sometimes the staff or help are not included in the census.
Thank you oldohiohome.

the staff are on the censuses, but not usually in the city directories. In Boston in the 1970s, I knew a live-in maid and the cook who both had apartments of their own. I don't know if that was true in NYC in the 1920s. If so, you might find them in the city directory there and on a census twice.
But I can't find Elizabeth even once on a census for 1930 to 1950. I haven't looked outside of NYC yet.

Wow, you are amazing, oldohiohome. First of all, you found the emigration record for Elizabeth. Then you found her marriage to Michael Valenti. Her parents were William Thomas Watterson and Margaret Clarke. And you found Mary's marriage to Van Boekel. Her parents were Ignatius Watterson and Elizabeth Clarke.  Since Ignatius and William Thomas Watterson were not brothers, that means Margaret and Elizabeth were sisters. Once I realized that, I have found this to be the case, with the parents of the sisters to be Robert Clarke and Margaret Ann Watterson. And you finally solved who is Miss Mary Watterson, cousin to Elizabeth Watterson, which I puzzled over for years.
And thank you RJ for the marriage record. Great to have. I think there was a lengthy newspaper article about the marriage of Elizabeth and Michael which I was unable to read on ancestry since my subscription does not include newspapers.com. Also, I think Michael died in 1939, so this was a short marriage.
Thanks again so very much.
