Hi Boo, just put this information with the rest of the 'stuff' and realised that in the time between the Census and his death he moved to West Row.  His wife, Elizabeth, must have been passed herself, as she would have probably had to move out the colliery house after his death.  Wonder where she ended up before she remarried around 1890ish

This looks  to be her re-marriage to Henry Brock
Q3 1890 Tynemouth 10b 290

and the 1891 census shows them in Cowpen

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:H3Q7-SW2

so when William died her youngest son, James, was just 9 months old. I'd assume she went to live with family, but as its between census years we may never know for sure.

As an aside, I looked on Marriage Locator
http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk

for her second marriage and that indicates they married at St Mary the Virgin, Horton Parish.

Nothing for this timeframe in the Family Search catalogue but the original registers are at Northumberland Archives.
If you know the church they do a copy service for a fee of £5 for a digital image that can be emailed to you - though I am unsure if you'd need the exact date of the marriage or if they will accept the year and quarter to use this service.

Or if you are in the area, you could visit when they are fully open again

Looks like Henry Brock and Elizabeth had twins, who sadly both died very young?

Hi Boo
I didn't know about Charles and Dorothy, but I do know that Henry Charles Brock was born March qtr 1891 and died Dec qtr 1891.  When Dorothy died in 1893 Elizabeth must have been pregnant with Walter Henry, who was born Jan qtr 1894.  It's so sad to learn about all the infantile deaths when you are doing your family tree, but I suppose it was part of life in that era.
Thanks for the info.

I have a 'thing' about recording the babies born and died too soon on my tree. However short the life they are part of my family and just as important to me as any other person on the tree.

Used to be really difficult to be sure if any had done so between census returns but now that the GRO site gives us MMNs prior to 1911 its been easier identify them.

Nice to know about the GRO site.  I shall have to start using it.  I am currently trying to ensure that all the trees I have on the go at the moment are up to date and actually correct (unlike the one I have just finished, which you helped me on).  Although on saying that, I am not sure if one member of the family is correct and am trying to sort it out, and may have to call for help at sometime in the future.
