Its a shame there are annoying 1 or 2 year gaps in the North Shields newspapers online makes me think they don't have them at the British library

Tynemouth Crematorium full Book of Remembrance is now online (not just those few months on the site I posted)

Thanks boo I have found it he was Cremated at Tynemonth Crematorium  when did the crem open?

RTL has just said records held are from 1959

I can see in the old newspapers that the plans were passed in 1955, so I imagine that 1959 was the first year it was operational.

That makes sense James wife was cremated at west road in 1956

Hi Jakpeter,

I was able to get along to the North Shields local studies today.  I found both had notices in the Shields Daily News.  Ann was even listed in the card index boxes for notices (I have been given permission to attach - sorry it has gone on side ways).

SDN - 15 January 1936

'SMITH.- At 14 Wallsend Road on 14th January, aged 73 years, Ann Crammond late of Newcastle Arms, beloved wife of the late John Tom Smith. Interment Preston Cemetery Friday, leaving residence 2.30 p.m.  All friends kindly invited.  R.I.P.'

SDN.- Friday 6 May 1966

'SMITH.- North Shields, 153 Regent Terrace, on April 30 (suddenly), aged 82 years, James Thomas Tabbnor, dearly beloved husband of the late Thomasina Smith.  Was cremated Tuesday May 3rd.'

I tried looking for the cremation record but unfortunately the local studies only has these records on microfilm from the 1970s.
