Miranda McGregor is showing on 1939 in St Pancras with a birth of 13/12/1912,
living in a boarding house/hotel/whatever, a single typist.

Her name is changed to Brown, and a date of birth of 18/12/1918, plus various notes.

Chempat - Posting this info. to see if you think it might be relevant or not  :-\

Could she have used a completely different name for herself to register her child Miranda’s birth???

That does look interesting.

I was assuming she had enough money to conceal the birth in a private home, but perhaps not.

Now, this December I have had contact from 2 tree holders from Ancestry, and on here from sholland.  One of the tree holders is intending to get help from an expert.  But it is so nice to see helpers on here returning to her and looking for further clues.

Thank-you.

Chempat

For info. just in case it might be relevant re 1913 departure to NY there is another Lapas with Daisy,

I think this is her on 1911 census Amina Labas born c 1888 Portsmouth, occ Actress
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWQK-HC9

EDIT to add - here's the link to the NY passenger list lots of other people with occupations as Theatrical, Artiste, Dancer https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JNRX-SP6?q.givenName=daisy&q.surname=labas

On the passenger list it gives an address for mother E Labas 43 St Georges Sqre Portsmouth -
Ive not been able to find an E LABAS, Amina or Daisy together on the census  :-\

Other than the 1913 passenger list, the 1911 census and the article below this is all I’ve been able to find for Amina LABAS born c 1888 Portsmouth - nothing else on Daisy LABAS other than the birth of her child Miranda, the workhouse record in Lambeth and a possible 1913 passenger list to New York

I can find up to 216 but not 316 (on 1911 and 1939) - could the address be 31b or some other squiggle?  Or does 316 go into a different district of London?

Yes.

In 1911 Eliza Hopton is head, a lodging house keeper, and she has an actor, an actress and a music hall artiste amongst her boarders.

Added: She (Eliza) is also there in 1901.

Eliza's son, Alfred James Coxhead, is the only person showing on the ER for 316 Kennington Park Road in 1914.

Re Miranda who married Ernest White in 1932 in Sussex.
There is a newspaper snippet
1931 Mid Sussex Times
Miranda McGregor, a maid ...
She appears to be a witness to theft but I can’t see the article.

There are two births - 1933 and 1936, Cuckfield with the right surnames.
