Marriage and or births on Scotlands People ?
« on: Wednesday 19 May 21 09:02 BST (UK) »
Can anyone see the marriage of Hugh Caldwell Martin to Jane Watterson quoted as 18 June 1863 on this millennium file ? (Relates to a USA thread - reply 50)  Lots of confusing information recorded about this couple but the marriage might unravel some of the anomalies ! ?

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=848756.45

Name Hugh Caldwell (Sr) Martin Birth Date 30 Nov 1834 Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland
Death Date 26 May 1903  Swan Valley, Bonneville, Idaho.
Marriage Date 18 Jun 1863
Father George Leadley Martin - Mother Janet Martin Osborne - Spouse Jane Watterson
Children Hugh Caldwell (Jr) Martin
Spouse Father Leonard W Watterson Spouse Mother Eliza Martha Martin.

Suppose the other alternative is they married in Ireland - Magherafelt area because Jane is born Ireland ?

Or are the births of the children on Scotland's People (a couple are quoted in Scotland Select Births and Baptisms) ?

The family address 1871 Census Raploch, Dalserf, Larkhall, Lanarkshire.

Hugh C Martin 36   Head
Jane Martin 28   Wife
Allan Martin 6   Son. born Dalserf, Lanarkshire.
Elesa Martin 4   Daur (Daughter) Birth recorded Eliza 17 June 1866 Scotland Select Births)
Joseph H Martin   2   Son. Born Dalefiel, Lanarkshire.
Jannet Martin 1month   Daur (Daughter) Birth recorded 10 Oct 1870 Lanark Scotland Select Births)

Hi Sandra

I can't see anything so far on SP (using broad variations)  and this is the nearest in Ireland.

From where in Ireland did Jane originate?

Yes, found that one Rosie. Its the earlier ones of interest.

Jane may be from Magherafelt born 1844 but there again her parents may have moved to Scotland ?
Different conflicting information as to who her father is - could be Leonard Watterson who was married twice and ended up in Scotland, we have him on census before the second wife (Rachel) died and he returned to Ireland.

Or father could be John  Watterson who may have been a brother of Leonard ?

Thanks Gadget, that's what I suspect but beginning to doubt myself.  Going round in circles with this ione.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

Interesting and helpful Gadget. Thank you.  It does look like 1863 marriage and the first born child Allan was 1864 in Scotland.  So I wonder where the other date is slightly out wonder where that came from ?

Perhaps we are getting nearer to discovering the parents?  Leonard Watterson would have been in Scotland then.

This one is tempting but I can't read which parish in Co Londonderry it is. Hugh;s occupation looks a little like coalminer(as Eliza's birth cert)  and there is an initial before the Martin

I'll see if I can get it more clear.
