Findmypasyt appear to have his RAF record but under surname CochraN, it helpfully gives his childrens names in the margin.
Dob wrong as 1880 but born Patricroft.
Possibly formerly in the army?

Yes they are the same record I think.as KGarrad suggests you need to pay extra for fold records.
He appears to have survived the war as possibly he is in Liverpool workhouse with influenza in 1919, address 16 Olive Street, wife Ruth.

Cathy-thank you for your help with this,I'm very grateful to you for your patience. Do you think then that I could get anything more from Fold?,and also,is it common to find contradictory info,or was I merely confused in thinking there was a record for a widow's pension??

I d ont understand the references either sorry, just references to where they d be found in the records I suppose.
There is a Samuel and Ruth Cockram on the 1939 register but could be another couple.
