Hi Geoff and Anna

Thank you for all your info.

Geoff - the marriage of George and Elizabeth is very interesting, I now have the maiden name Peltell to investigate! Thanks for that.

Anna - you have given me some info I hadn't got,  namely that there were several other children from the IGI and the 1861 census entry! Thank you.

I am now on the Borridge trail again.

Angela

Hi James

Yes, we are on the same wave length, it is the same Toynton family. Not only that, I have a hand-written family tree that was sent in 2003 to my mother-in-law, and I think from the names you mentioned, you are on it! BURRIDGE is also written on it and nor BURRELL.

Hi Everyone,
I'm Richard and have just found your discussion. What I have is possibly relevant especially to Angela. I have found an old newspaper cutting among my aunts' albums reporting the death of Pte John Pestell (unfortunately there is no year attached), could this be a misprint for your 'Peltell'? I can see no reason for it being kept otherwise as my mother does not recognize the name!
My connection is via the Toynton family (subsection Smith), my aunts being Bebee and May Smith from the Harry Smith / Ethel Toynton of Trumpington, Cambridge line.
If you think it is of interest I can send a copy
Richard

This may well be the PESTELL death http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=607346

Perhaps it is PELTELL that is wrong.  :-\

Hi Geoff

Thanks for that info on the CWGC site. The surname seems to vary a lot, I'm not sure what it should be.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for offering the newspaper cutting, could it be the name on the CWGC site do you think?
As I have only just found out recently the name Peltell, or its varients, I haven't done much yet. It is bad enough trying to sort out the Burridge from the Borridge, Burrage etc!! I have been on the familysearch site and found 7 children of George and Elizabeth, 3 of them, George, Henry and John have Peltill in their names.
It is nice to make contact anyway. Perhaps you can keep hold of the newspaper cutting for the moment until one of us can make further progress.

Thank you
Angela

Hi Angela, yes all the details fit, I've been trying to attach a scan to this mail but it doesn't seem to allow it despite the message after this box!
I also have a report of a James Toynton being deported for 10 years for sheep stealing - again no date so I will have to check the dates that deportation was the penalty. This wont, of course, be Mary Rebecca's James but could be his Grandfather or Great Great Grandfather!
