I wonder if that was why the marriage was in 1936?
From 1900 Nellie Shing is in the electoral rolls, seem to match occurrences of Loy Shing in newspaper.

In 1899 there is an electoral roll case and Mrs Shing refers to “a country man of my husband’s” which seems to imply she is not Chinese,

Added, it also says her husband did not understand English.

This seems to be the same Loy SHING  buried at New Plymouth ??

There are two similar files - one showing birth year 1897, the other 1898.
NZBDM has > Death > 1948 -- SHING - Loy - 56 years  [bc  1892]
[A sizeable gap in ages then between this man and his wife Nellie ? ]

There are two Loy Shings.

The one b 1898/7. Was in Timaru. He died 1948.

The one in New Plymouth is said to be 99 at his death in 1949

And what of this file ???

https://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE17177569

I take from this that Loy SHING first appeared in New Zealand in 1922 ??

Who then is the "Nellie SHING" who appears on Taranaki E/rolls from 1900.  ???

And. I cannot see a death registration to match the 1949 death.

Only way forward is I think the purchase of the 1936 marriage certificate.
Or perhaps if someone could look at that naturalisation documentation. It might have the marriage cert in the file?
