Sorry for the delay.  I’ve only just seen your query.  No, I should have added that it was the 1851 census.

Living in Wellington Buildings, St.George in the East.  I will try to find it again to see which street that’s in.   

If it’s the correct family, then it seems from the GRO birth registrations that the mother’s name was either Reid or Reed.

Wellington Buildings were in Samuel Street

This doesn’t explain George saying his mother’s name was Mary though.
I wonder if she died when he was young, so he was unsure of her name.

Yeah still doesn't explain the Mary though as his Mother's name - This family looks very promising but Mary as the mum is a definite curveball  :(

I hit the same problem when researching this individual. The birth date I had was 1855. It looked to be the right family. I had assumed there was some transposition issues. It does seem to be the right person. The mother is Ann (there is also a sister Mary Ann)
