I am trying to find any information on a Mary Reid. In 1919 she was the "daughter of a bootmaker. Domiciled at Braeholme, Row, Dunbartonshire."
The only reference to a Braeholme I can find is - Braeholm, 35 East Montrose Street, Row (Rhu), Dunbartonshire, Scotland.
Is there any where I can find the history of this house? Who lived there in 1919? I know it became a maternity hospital but I don't know when (the date).
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to rootschat ..I had a few credits and I checked the valuation records in 1920
The proprietors were Isaac and William Spy and a Mrs D Bennet
In house number 3 Braeholme Row there was a Andrew McIntyre tenant ( joiner )
House 4 was a Andrew Reid tenant( gardener )
House 5 was a John Campbell ( joiner )

1925 proprietor was William Spy and Mrs D Bennett
House number 8 was a Mrs Reid Tennant
House number 9 was a John Campbell ( gardener )..

You could try Helensburgh Heritage and see if you can get any more information I have a few books on Helenburgh and surrounding areas will have a look and see if there is anything

I think this house is in the village of Rhu don't think it relates to the Maternity hospital Braeholm my 2 sons were born there  :D ..Doctor Erskine owned the house next to the hospital ..Which is now luxury appartments ..What was the fathers name on Mary's birth certificate and do you have her in later years

Thanks for your help Rosie.
So is/was Braeholme Row a street?  Where would I find these valuation records or reference to Braeholme Row? There appears to be a few Reid's on your list. My father was adopted and Mary Reid was his mother on his birth certificate. He died back in 1978 so this is just for my curiosity. All I have is her name and "daughter of a bootmaker. Domiciled at Braeholme, Row, Dunbartonshire."

Hi  :)

Mary's birth is registered as Mary Beaton Reid:

MARY BEATON REID
1896
503/ 23
Row or Rhu

Her parents were Andrew Reid, shoemaker, and Rebecca Gordon. Andrew died in 1921 at the Victoria Infirmary. Likely the one mentioned by Rosie in the 1920 Valuation Rolls who is showing as gardener? His usual address is Braeholm, Row. His parents were Andrew, also a shoemaker and Mary Beason. See clip below:

1901 census entry from the transcripts:

Andrew Reid 40 gardener domestic b. clarkton toll, Renfrewshire
Rebecca Reid 45 b. Strichen, Aberdeenshire
Andrew G Reid 11 b. Cove, Dumbartonshire
Maryann R G Reid 9 b. Peterhead, Aberdeenshire
Mary B Reid 5 b. Row, Dumbartonshire

Address: Beechwood, Row, Dumbartonshire

So, must have worked as a shoemaker and a gardener?

I thought this might be a marriage for Mary:

MARY BEATON REID and ROBERT ASHWOOD HAY
1929
503/ 36
Row or Rhu

However, there is a death for this Mary in 1973 in Glasgow.

There is this death:

MARY BEATON REID - there is no other surname linked, so likely unmarried.
Age 81
Mother's maiden name GORDON
1977
501/ 34
Helensburgh

I see that there is a family tree for this line on Ancestry www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/166095269/person/432153703834/facts - you need a subs to view. Not sure if you have this.

There are no original images included but plenty of dates for BMD events that you can then verify yourself on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk Always wise to verify data yourself unless original sources are included  ;)
