Marriage of John Jones and Mary? - Flint, Mold, Shotton area of Flintshire

I think one of my gggfathers Robert Jones was born @ Flint Common 23 February 1798, the son of John Jones and Mary baptised at Northop (presumably St. Eurgain and St. Peter's Parish Church), 25 February 1798. I also think Robert's sister Anne was born @ Caerfallwch, baptised at Northop.

I'm assuming Robert was John and Mary's first child, but have not yet confirmed. So, the target dates would be c1795-1798.

I'm  looking for John and Mary's marriage. I've just discovered on Ancestry that Northop has marriage records only from 1804.

I wonder, could those who have knowledge of this area's records suggest the best alternative to Northop's parish records to check for the marriage. Mold? Harwarden? or somewhere else. I understand Caerfallwch was not created until 1876, Bistre not until 1844.

FindMyPast has parish register images for Northop.  Several baptisms around that time with parents John & Mary.

I notice that family search has marriages at Northop, Flintshire during the period 1790-1800 but not John & Mary. The nearest I could find to that place is on freereg, below.

Yes, I'd forgotten about FamilySearch so thanks for checking the Northop marriages for 1790-1800. I'll check the 2 you have identified to see whether there is any mention of Township/Abode in an attempt to nail down which John and Mary is mine. I'm guessing FOULHES = Foulkes.

I've checked the baptisms for Northop for the same purpose. Already, I have identified 6 J&M Abode Northop baptisms, as well as 4 J&M Abode Flint Commons (the earliest being Daniel bapt 27Sep1800), 3 J&M Abode Leadbrook Majors, and 1 J&M Abode Caerfyllal. I'll now see what J&M baptisms the Hawarden registers throw up.

I think you can forget anything in Hawarden. It is some distance from Northop. I think Flint, Mold and Connah's Quay would be the most likely alternatives.

Thing is, John's grandson (my ggfather) of Shotton was baptised at St. Deiniol's Parish Church, Hawarden 26 Oct 1828. So, I've been working back from him. His father, also Robert, (son of John & Mary of Flint Common), however, was baptised @ St. Eurgain and St. Peter's Parish Church, Northop 25Feb1798, and married @ St Mary-on-the-Hill Parish Church, Chester 8May 1816. As I mentioned to Colin,

To your point, a) I've checked the offspring of the 2 marriages @ Northop, Colin identified, as well as another, John & Mary Hughes @ Hawarden 29Dec1798, and b) found no Robert (son of a John & Mary) baptised @ Hawarden between 1790 and 1810 and only one (above) at Northop over the same period.

As you suggest, I'll plough through Flint, Mold and Connah's Quay for a Robert, son of John & Mary.

Thanks, Gadget. Very interesting. Assuming Mary was pregnant when they were married (hardly uncommon at the time), that would fit with Robert son of John & Mary Jones of Flint Common b. 23Feb1798/bapt 25Feb1798 in the Northop registers.

Could be you have cracked it, Gadget. Unfortunately, as we know, at this time the parish clerks did not enter the mother's maiden name in these records.
