Each test can only be attached to one tree, but more than one test can be attached to an individual tree.

As above, I have matches where two or three matches all link to the same tree (and indeed are identifiable as for example children or parents of the "owner" of the tree).

You can also change which one tree a given test is connected to, which is a bit of a palaver to do, but might have some benefits.

Galium did you know that you may have some links on your mother's side that are stronger than hers
You can temporarily link to her tree and check results ( this may involve unlinking her and throws out thru lines for a few days)

My male cousin has more links than me to our mothers' side and some that she doesn't had

Albu
Confused by that sentence if each test can only attach to one tree how can more than one test be attached ?

Rephrase

Each test can only be linked to one tree.

Each tree can be linked to multiple tests.

You can also move a test between different trees, but at any given time it can only be linked to one.

I've gone into settings for my aunt's DNA and linked it to my main tree that my DNA is already attached to

the advantage is that when I find new relatives I don't have to add to both trees .

If I decide it's a better system i.ll add my mothers DNA too

Thanks for explaining that Albu

Thanks bridgidmac, yes I have noticed that some of my mother's side matches are slightly stronger for me than for her.  I think that for small variations it probably doesn't mean much.
There are a couple of bunches that link to Mum, but much more to me - which I haven't worked out yet - and sometimes the odd match to me that is shared with a Mother's Side match, but isn't itself one of Mum's matches.

I haven't yet tried linking my test to Mum's tree for a short while, but maybe I will.  At the moment I just use the profile page of a match to toggle between their match to Mum and to me for a quick comparison.

Galium do you look at shared matches of shared matches .if your top shared match doesn't have a linked tree maybe the smaller shared matches to them will throw up an extra connection
I always look at the unlinked trees and put surnames + locations from their tree in notes for future reference if they dont fit one of my colour codes
