I ask because I’m having trouble distinguishing between the men’s fashion in the first and third photos. But that’s why I’m not an expert!

In order to distinguish between the 2 men you have to look
at what goes with the 2 frock coats.
The older man is wearing a wing collar & Oxford knot tie.
This is typical formal daywear particularly for older men over a long period.
The young man is wearing a cravat & frock coat, being more
fashion conscious he wouldn't be seen dead dressed like this any later than the 1870's.
